Shark diving is available year-round, with seasonal ocean conditions to consider.

If you’re visiting Oahu and shark diving is on your bucket list (trust us, it should be), you may wonder when the best time of the year is to experience swimming with these incredible marine animals. We have good news for you! Our shark diving tours are available all year-round on the North Shore! Different species such as Galapagos and Sandbar sharks are present in every season, so no matter when you visit, the opportunity to see them in their natural habitat is always there!

Is there a “best” time to go?

There isn’t a “best” month for everyone. In fact, the ideal time depends on your personal comfort and diving experience. Would you prefer calm and comfortable conditions? Or would you rather have a little adrenaline with more energy from the ocean? Oahu has something for everyone!

Summer months (May-September): calm seas and clear visibility

Summer is often the most comfortable season for cage-free shark diving. The North Shore experiences smaller swells, and clearer visibility especially during morning tours. These conditions are perfect for first time divers or anyone seeking for a more relaxed experience. Note that even if the conditions are better, guides still prioritize safety, ensuring the best experience for everyone.

Winter months (October-April): a more adventurous experience

Winter brings larger swells and more dynamic ocean conditions, creating a different type of shark diving experience. Some visitors may find this more appealing because this season typically has fewer crowds. However, keep in mind that tours remain available only when conditions are safe! So, flexibility is important. Our guides closely monitor daily weather and ocean conditions to ensure everyone’s safety.
